They played a primary role in the social scene of Rhode Island, attached to the Narragansett Pier Casino, which was a place for gambling as well as a sport and entertainment center. It was a place of laughter and enjoyment until 1900, when a fire at an adjacent hotel caused the Casino to burn down.
